This is our 5m Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable in 32A three phase form, rated at 22 kW. It is a portable lead with a plug on both ends, one for the charge point socket and one for the car, and it is supplied in all black, black cable and black connectors.
The important thing to understand before ordering is where the 22 kW figure applies. British homes are supplied with a single phase, and a single phase caps out at 7.4 kW. Plug this cable into a home wallbox and it will deliver 7.4 kW, precisely the same as an ordinary 32A single phase lead. Nothing about the three phase construction makes it faster on a driveway.
Three genuine phases exist in other places. A workplace supply, an industrial unit, or a 22 kW AC post in a public car park can all provide them. At one of those, and only if your car's onboard charger is built to accept more than 7.4 kW, this cable lets the car take everything on offer. A car limited to 7.4 kW gains nothing anywhere, because charging always runs at the lowest of three limits: the car, the supply and the cable.
So the decision is simple enough. Buy this if you regularly charge somewhere with a real three phase supply and your car can use it. If you charge at home and at ordinary destination points, our single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cables do the same job at home for less money.
Five metres suits a charge point mounted close to where the car parks. If the post is further away, or you park across a bay from it, choose a longer lead instead.

Will this cable charge my car at 22 kW at home?
No. A UK house is fed by a single phase, and 7.4 kW is the ceiling on a single phase supply. This cable delivers 7.4 kW on a home wallbox, exactly like a 32A single phase lead. The 22 kW rating is only reachable where three separate phases are actually present.
Where can I use the three phase capability?
At a site with a genuine three phase supply, such as a workplace car park, an industrial unit, or a public 22 kW AC post. Your car also has to be able to use it. If its onboard charger tops out at 7.4 kW, the extra capacity in the cable and the supply goes unused.
Should I buy this or a single phase cable?
Choose the single phase version if you charge at home and at ordinary destination points, because it costs less and performs identically there. Choose this one if you have regular access to a three phase supply and a car whose onboard charger accepts more than 7.4 kW. Otherwise you are paying for capacity you will not reach.
Is 5m long enough?
It is if the charge point is close to where you park. Measure from the socket to the charging flap with the car parked as you normally leave it, then allow a spare metre so the lead is not pulled tight. If that comes to more than five metres, take a longer cable rather than stretching this one.
What colour is it?
All black, meaning black cable and black connectors at both ends. This is the only finish this cable is made in, so there is no colour option to select at checkout. Other lengths and specifications in our Type 2 range are offered in different colours if that matters to you.
Which end plugs into the car?
Either one. A Type 2 to Type 2 lead has a matching connector at both ends, so you can plug in whichever way round is convenient. One goes into the socket on the charge point and the other into the car's inlet. Both ends lock in place once charging starts.
