    Description

Every e-tron GT charges through a Type 2 socket, and every version of it, quattro, S, RS and RS performance, carries the same 11 kW onboard charger. Trim level changes nothing about charging. What does change is the size of the battery underneath.

Cars built between 2021 and 2024 hold 83.7 kWh of usable capacity. The 2024 revision raised that to 97 kWh usable across the S, the RS and the RS performance, and left the charger alone. The newer car therefore takes proportionally longer on the same cable rather than charging any faster.

The 11 kW figure deserves an explanation, because it is a three phase rating and British houses are wired single phase. Single phase tops out at 7.4 kW, so on your own driveway the car will draw 7.4 kW through a 32A single phase cable no matter what the brochure quotes. That is a property of the electricity supply, not a shortcoming of the car or the lead.

This is one of the few cars we sell cables for where the three phase 22 kW version genuinely earns its price. Plugged into a three phase AC post, the kind found at workplaces, hotels and destination car parks, it allows the Audi to take its full 11 kW. On the 83.7 kWh battery that is about eight and a half hours from empty rather than nearly thirteen. On the 97 kWh car it is around ten hours rather than close to fifteen. The cable is rated well above what the Audi will ever request, so the car stays in charge of the pace. Buy it if you park somewhere with three phase AC often enough to notice. If you only ever charge at home, it behaves exactly like the cheaper 32A lead.

For home charging the 32A single phase cable is the right purchase and the one most owners choose. The 16A cable delivers 3.7 kW, roughly half as much, which pushes a full charge past a day on either battery. It is worth considering only when the charge point itself is restricted to 16A.

The 3 pin cable is an emergency item on a car this size rather than a charging method. At 2.3 kW you would need the better part of two days from empty, so keep one in the boot for an unexpected night away and plan around the Type 2 cables for everything else.

Audi e-tron GT Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable does the Audi e-tron GT need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. For home use choose the 32A single phase version, which gives the car the full 7.4 kW a British house can supply. That fills the 83.7 kWh battery in about twelve and three quarter hours, or the later 97 kWh pack in roughly fourteen and three quarter hours.

Is the 22 kW three phase cable worth buying?

On this car, yes, provided you use three phase AC posts. The Audi accepts 11 kW, and only a three phase cable can hand it that. It cuts the 83.7 kWh car from nearly thirteen hours to about eight and a half. At home, where the supply is single phase, it offers nothing extra.

Why does it charge at 7.4 kW at home?

Because UK houses are supplied with single phase electricity, which cannot exceed 7.4 kW however capable the car is. The e-tron GT's 11 kW rating assumes three phase power. Nothing is faulty, and a more expensive cable will not change it. Your driveway charge is set by the incoming supply.

How long does an e-tron GT take to charge?

From empty on a 32A cable at home, about twelve and three quarter hours for the 2021 to 2024 car and fourteen and three quarter for the 2024 onwards 97 kWh version. On a three phase post at the full 11 kW those fall to roughly eight and a half and ten hours.

Does the RS need a different cable?

No. The RS, the S, the RS performance and the standard quattro all share one 11 kW onboard charger and one Type 2 socket, so a single 32A cable covers the whole range. Battery size is the only variable: 83.7 kWh usable up to 2024, and 97 kWh usable afterwards.

What length cable suits an e-tron GT?

Five metres is plenty when the car sits beside a wallbox on the same wall. Ten metres suits a longer driveway, a shared bay or a post reached from an angle. We also stock 15m and 20m in the 32A single phase cable for houses where the parking is a long walk away.
