    Description

The Audi Q7 e-tron takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A. Buy the 5m or the 10m and you are done. Every plug-in Q7 accepts 7.4 kW on AC and nothing more, whichever badge or model year you have, so a three phase cable cannot make this car charge faster. If a previous version of this page told you otherwise, ignore it. The 32A single phase cable is the correct choice.

Only a TFSI e badge plugs in. A Q7 wearing TFSI, TDI or SQ7 lettering has no charging inlet and needs nothing from us. Trim and specification make no difference to charging, so do not spend time working out whether yours is a Sport, S line or Vorsprung. What matters is the model year, because the 2024 facelift changed the battery without touching the charger.

Cars built from 2019 to 2023, badged 55 TFSI e or 60 TFSI e, carry 14.4 kWh usable. At the full 7.4 kW that is roughly two hours fifteen minutes from empty, which is short enough to fit into an evening rather than a whole night. The 2024 cars onwards still wear the 55 and 60 TFSI e badges but hold 22 kWh usable from a 25.9 kWh gross pack. Same 7.4 kW charger, half again the energy, so the fill stretches to about three hours thirty.

That difference is the reason to bother with the 32A cable rather than the 16A. On a 16A cable a facelift Q7 needs about six hours forty five minutes, which turns a top up you could do while cooking dinner into an overnight job. On the older car the gap is smaller but still real, four hours thirty against two hours fifteen. A plug-in hybrid is only worth the fuel saving if it actually gets charged, and a slow cable is the usual reason it does not.

UK homes run on a single phase supply, so 7.4 kW is the fastest any domestic wallbox can push, and that happens to be exactly what this car will accept. There is nothing left on the table. Our Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated and the 3 pin units IP67. Both come with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

Audi Q7 e-tron Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable does the Audi Q7 TFSI e need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated at 32A, in 5m or 10m. Every plug-in Q7 has a Type 2 inlet and a 7.4 kW onboard charger, so the 32A single phase cable matches the car exactly. Nothing faster exists for this vehicle, and nothing slower makes sense if you charge at home.

Does my Q7 plug in at all?

Only if the badge reads TFSI e. A Q7 55 TFSI or 60 TFSI on petrol, any TDI diesel, and the SQ7 all lack a charging inlet entirely, whatever mild hybrid technology sits underneath. Check the rear badge and look for a second flap on the front wing. No flap means no cable required.

How long does a Q7 e-tron take to charge?

On the 32A cable at 7.4 kW, a 2019 to 2023 car with 14.4 kWh usable takes about two hours fifteen minutes from empty. A 2024 facelift with 22 kWh usable takes about three hours thirty. Both figures assume a working home wallbox rather than a domestic three pin socket.

Is a 22 kW three phase cable worth it?

No. The Q7 TFSI e accepts 7.4 kW on AC and will not exceed it, so a three phase cable costs more and delivers exactly the same two hours fifteen or three hours thirty. UK homes are single phase anyway, capping any wallbox at 7.4 kW. Save the money and buy the 32A single phase.

How do I tell a 2024 Q7 from an earlier one?

The badge is no help, since both wear 55 and 60 TFSI e. Go by registration year instead. Cars registered 2019 to 2023 hold 14.4 kWh usable. Cars from 2024 hold 22 kWh usable, from a 25.9 kWh gross pack, and take roughly seventy five minutes longer to fill on the same cable.

    Do I need a 5m or 10m cable?

The Q7 is a long car, so the distance from a wallbox to the inlet is easily more than the tape measure suggests once you allow for parking angle. 5m works with a wallbox alongside the bay. Pick 10m for a garage wall behind the car or a shared driveway with two vehicles.
