The Mitsubishi i-MiEV needs a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, and 16A is the version to buy. Type 2 at the wallbox end, Type 1 at the car. A normal Type 2 to Type 2 lead, the sort almost every EV uses today, physically will not go into this car.
Only one i-MiEV was sold here, built from 2011 to 2015, with 14.5 kWh usable from a 16 kWh pack. The onboard charger is rated at 3.7 kW. That single number decides everything else on this page. A 16A cable carries 3.7 kW, so it already matches the car exactly. A 32A cable fits the same socket and works perfectly well, but the car will still draw 3.7 kW and finish at the same moment, so you are paying for copper that never gets used. There is no three phase option to consider either, because Type 1 is a five pin single phase connector and no three phase Type 1 cable exists anywhere.
From flat, expect about four and a half hours on either Type 2 cable. That is short by electric car standards, and it is the quiet advantage of a small city car battery.
It is also why the Type 1 to 3 Pin cable deserves a proper look here. On most modern EVs a three pin lead is an emergency measure. On an i-MiEV it is a genuine charging method. At 2.3 kW a flat pack is full in around seven hours, so an ordinary socket in a garage refills the car overnight without a wallbox at all. Plenty of owners run one this way and keep the Type 2 cable purely for public posts and work car parks.
Worth knowing before you shop around: Peugeot and Citroen sold this exact car as the iOn and the C-Zero. Any Type 1 cable listed for one of the three fits all of them, which widens the secondhand market if you are replacing a lost lead. The car also carries a CHAdeMO port rated at 40 kW for rapid charging, which is a fitting on the charge point itself rather than a cable you buy.

Which cable fits a Mitsubishi i-MiEV?
A Type 1 to Type 2 cable. The i-MiEV has a five pin Type 1 inlet, so the seven pin Type 2 lead used by most newer EVs will not enter the socket. The Type 2 plug goes into your wallbox or public post and the Type 1 plug goes into the car. Choose 16A.
Is a 32A cable worth it on an i-MiEV?
No. The onboard charger is capped at 3.7 kW, which is exactly what a 16A cable delivers, so a 32A lead draws no more and finishes the same 14.5 kWh pack at the same time, about four and a half hours. It fits and it is safe, but the extra cost buys nothing on this car.

Is the Peugeot iOn cable the same as the i-MiEV one?
Yes. Mitsubishi built the i-MiEV and Peugeot and Citroen sold identical cars as the iOn and the C-Zero. All three use the same 14.5 kWh battery and the same Type 1 inlet, so a cable listed for any one of them fits the other two. That is handy when you are hunting for a replacement lead.
Should I get a 5m or 10m i-MiEV cable?
Five metres is fine for a garage socket or a wallbox within a couple of steps of the car. Ten metres earns its keep on a shared driveway, a kerbside charge point, or a workplace bay where you cannot pick your space. The i-MiEV is a small car, so a coiled ten metre lead still fits behind the seats.
