Three different cars wear a C3 badge in the UK and only one of them has a socket. The electric Citroen e-C3 charges at 7.4 kW on AC and takes a Type 2 cable. The petrol C3 has nothing to plug in. Neither does the C3 Hybrid 110, which is a 48 volt mild hybrid that recharges itself from the engine and the brakes, and which catches people out precisely because the word hybrid is on the boot. Citroen has never sold a plug-in hybrid C3 in Britain, so if your car is not the e-C3, no charging cable exists that will fit it.
An e-C3 uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Citroen fits the standard European inlet, and there is no Type 1 version of this car, so the connector question is settled before you start.
Take the 32A single phase lead. Three phase power is a commercial supply, and on a house you get one phase with 7.4 kW as its ceiling, which happens to be exactly what the e-C3 asks for. That makes this one of the cleaner matches in the catalogue: the cable, the supply and the car all agree on the same number, and the 22 kW lead cannot improve on it anywhere.
The 16A cable is a closer call here than on most electric cars, because the batteries are small. On the 44 kWh e-C3 it takes a full charge from 6 hours 45 minutes to 13 hours 30 minutes, which no longer fits a night. On the Urban Range car it is 9 hours against 4 hours 30 minutes, which still does. On the Urban Range battery the 16A lead is defensible. On the 44 kWh car it is not.
A small battery is exactly where a 3-pin cable stops being a token gesture. What cable should a Citroen e-C3 owner buy?
The Citroen e-C3 uses the 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. It is the only C3 in the range with a charging socket, so if your car is the petrol version or the Hybrid 110 you do not need a cable at all.

No. The Citroen C3 Hybrid 110 is a 48 volt mild hybrid with no charging socket, and it recharges its small battery from the engine and from braking. There has never been a plug-in hybrid C3 sold in the UK either, so the only C3 that takes a cable is the fully electric e-C3.
Will a three phase cable help a Citroen e-C3?
No. A Citroen e-C3 draws 7.4 kW at most and a home supply provides one phase, which delivers exactly that. The 22 kW cable costs more, weighs more and finishes at the same time, so there is no version of this car or this supply where it pays.
How long does a Citroen e-C3 take to charge at home?
About 6 hours 45 minutes from empty for the 44 kWh Citroen e-C3 on a 32A cable, and about 4 hours 30 minutes for the 30 kWh Urban Range version. Both roughly double on a 16A lead, at 13 hours 30 minutes and 9 hours.
How long a cable does a Citroen e-C3 need?
The e-C3 is a short car at just under four metres, so 5m covers most driveways where the wallbox is on the same side as the charging flap. Measure from the socket on the wall to where the flap ends up when the car is parked as you normally leave it, and choose 10m if that walk goes round either end of the car.
Can I use my own cable at a public charger?
Yes. UK on-street and car park AC posts are mostly untethered, meaning you plug your own Type 2 to Type 2 lead in at both ends. The e-C3 also has a CCS socket for rapid DC charging, which uses the charger's own attached cable.
