    Description

For nearly every Nissan Ariya owner the answer is the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Every UK Ariya, from the entry 63 kWh Engage to the NISMO, uses a Type 2 socket, so fit is never in question. What the 32A cable does is let the car pull the full 7.4 kW that a British home supply can deliver, and that is the fastest any Ariya will charge on a driveway.

Trim badges are a red herring here. What matters is the battery and whether the first owner ticked one box. The 63 kWh cars come with a 7.4 kW onboard charger as standard, though Nissan sold a 22 kW upgrade for £895 on the Advance, Shiro and Evolve versions. Every 87 kWh car, including the e-4ORCE four wheel drive models and the NISMO, has that 22 kW charger fitted from the factory.

The 22 kW figure needs putting in context, because it is easy to overpay for it. It is a three phase rating. Homes in Britain are wired single phase, which stops the supply at 7.4 kW no matter how capable the car is, so a 22 kW Ariya and a 7.4 kW Ariya charge at exactly the same speed on your own charge point. The 22 kW only appears on a three phase post, which in practice means a workplace or a commercial site.

Battery size is what changes the clock. On a 32A cable, a 63 kWh Ariya takes about 9 hours 45 minutes from empty and an 87 kWh car about 13 hours 15 minutes. If you have the larger battery and access to three phase power at work, the 32A three phase cable is a genuine upgrade, cutting that to around 4 hours 30 minutes. It also drops back to 7.4 kW at home, so it is not a wasted purchase either way.

The 16A cable is a poor match for this car. Holding an 87 kWh pack to 3.7 kW turns a full charge into more than a day. Treat the Type 2 to 3 Pin cable the same way: at 2.3 kW it is for holiday cottages, family visits and the odd emergency, never as your main lead.

Our Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated, our Type 2 to 3 Pin cables are IP67, and both come with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

    Nissan Ariya Charging Cable FAQs

Which charging cable does the Nissan Ariya need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable in 32A. Every UK Ariya has a Type 2 inlet and every one of them will accept 7.4 kW, which is the most a single phase home supply can give. The 32A cable carries exactly that, so it is the right choice on the 63 kWh car and the 87 kWh car alike.

How long does an Ariya take to charge at home?

From empty on a 32A cable, roughly 9 hours 45 minutes for the 63 kWh battery and roughly 13 hours 15 minutes for the 87 kWh battery. The larger car therefore needs more than one night from flat, although most owners plug in well before empty and only add what the day used.

Does my Ariya have the 22 kW onboard charger?

If it has the 87 kWh battery, yes, it is standard on every one including e-4ORCE and NISMO. On a 63 kWh car it was a £895 option, fitted only to Advance, Shiro and Evolve trims, so check the original order or ask a Nissan dealer with your registration before buying a three phase cable.

Is a three phase cable worth buying for an Ariya?

It depends entirely on where you charge. On three phase power an 87 kWh Ariya goes from empty in about 4 hours 30 minutes rather than 13 hours 15 minutes, which is a real difference at a workplace. At home it gives you nothing, because your supply cannot exceed 7.4 kW whatever cable is attached.

Will a 16A cable be enough for an 87 kWh Ariya?

We would not recommend it. A 16A cable limits the car to 3.7 kW, which stretches a full charge on the 87 kWh battery to about 26 hours 30 minutes. Even on the 63 kWh car it means roughly 19 hours 15 minutes. Only choose 16A if the socket you use genuinely cannot supply more.

Do I need a 5m, 10m or longer Ariya cable?

Five metres is enough where the charge point faces the Ariya's socket directly. Ten metres covers awkward parking, kerbside units and shared bays. We also list 15m and 20m in 32A for long driveways, detached garages and farm buildings. Length has no effect on the 7.4 kW the car receives.
