    Buy the Type 2 to Type 2 32A cable. Every e-SpaceTourer leaves the factory with a 7.4 kW onboard charger, and 32A single phase is the rating that carries all of it at a UK home. The question worth settling before you order is not the cable, it is which battery sits under your van, because that decides how long it stays plugged in. Citroen sold the 50 kWh car on its own from late 2020, in standard and XL lengths, with 46.3 kWh usable. The 75 kWh version arrived with the March 2024 facelift and holds 68 kWh usable. Both share the same Type 2 inlet and the same cable. On a 7.4 kW wallbox the 50 kWh car fills from empty in about seven hours, while the 75 kWh car needs closer to ten and a half. That gap is the reason to plug in most nights rather than twice a week. An 11 kW three phase onboard charger was offered as an option, listed on the XL and on facelift cars. We could not confirm from our data whether it was available on the earliest 50 kWh models. Either way it changes nothing at home, because British houses are single phase and an 11 kW van still draws 7.4 kW from a domestic wallbox. At a three phase point, the option brings the 50 kWh car down to roughly four and three quarter hours and the 75 kWh car to about seven, and only that situation justifies buying the three phase lead. The 16A cable at 3.7 kW is a weak match for a battery this size, taking over fourteen hours on the 50 kWh and nearly twenty one on the 75 kWh. A three pin lead at 2.3 kW is slower again and belongs in the boot as emergency kit, not as a charging plan. One more check: the diesel SpaceTourer BlueHDi has no charging port, so it needs no cable at all. For length, an e-SpaceTourer is a long vehicle and rarely parks tidily. Take 5m only if the wallbox is level with the flap, and 10m if you reverse in, park across a bay, or share a charger with a second car.     An Audi Q3 plug-in hybrid takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Two very different cars wear the badge, and they do not want the same cable, so check which one is on your driveway before you order. The Q3 45 TFSI e of 2021 to 2024, in SUV and Sportback form, has a 13 kWh battery and a 3.6 kW onboard charger. Audi quotes three hours 45 minutes from empty. That is the slowest charger Audi has fitted to a plug-in hybrid, and it means the 16A cable gives the car everything it can take. A 32A cable charges it no faster and costs more. The Q3 e-hybrid launched in 2025 is a different proposition. Its battery nearly doubled to 19.7 kWh usable, worth up to 73 miles, and the charger went up to 11 kW. A British house is single phase and tops out at 7.4 kW, so the 32A single phase cable is the home buy and fills it in about three hours. The three phase cable is what unlocks the full 11 kW at a three phase post, and takes that three hours down to two. Telling them apart is easy once you know. Audi badged the old car 45 TFSI e and the new one e-hybrid, and the newer car quotes an electric range in the seventies rather than the low thirties.     For nearly every Nissan Ariya owner the answer is the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Every UK Ariya, from the entry 63 kWh Engage to the NISMO, uses a Type 2 socket, so fit is never in question. What the 32A cable does is let the car pull the full 7.4 kW that a British home supply can deliver, and that is the fastest any Ariya will charge on a driveway. Trim badges are a red herring here. What matters is the battery and whether the first owner ticked one box. The 63 kWh cars come with a 7.4 kW onboard charger as standard, though Nissan sold a 22 kW upgrade for £895 on the Advance, Shiro and Evolve versions. Every 87 kWh car, including the e-4ORCE four wheel drive models and the NISMO, has that 22 kW charger fitted from the factory. The 22 kW figure needs putting in context, because it is easy to overpay for it. It is a three phase rating. Homes in Britain are wired single phase, which stops the supply at 7.4 kW no matter how capable the car is, so a 22 kW Ariya and a 7.4 kW Ariya charge at exactly the same speed on your own charge point. The 22 kW only appears on a three phase post, which in practice means a workplace or a commercial site. Battery size is what changes the clock. On a 32A cable, a 63 kWh Ariya takes about 9 hours 45 minutes from empty and an 87 kWh car about 13 hours 15 minutes. If you have the larger battery and access to three phase power at work, the 32A three phase cable is a genuine upgrade, cutting that to around 4 hours 30 minutes. It is the one car in our range where a three-phase supply stops being a nice extra and starts changing how you live with the vehicle, because it takes the same charge down to about 10 hours 45 minutes. In practice most iX owners never see an empty battery, and that is the sensible approach. Plugging in nightly from 40 or 50 percent turns a 16 hour problem into a 7 hour one that fits comfortably inside off-peak hours. The car is easier to own if you stop thinking about full charges. Every BMW iX charges through a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, ours sealed to IP55, on the xDrive40, the xDrive50 and the M60 alike. Our 1-Phase, 32A cable is the right buy for a driveway, carrying the whole 7.4 kW a house can produce. Our 22 kW three-phase cable cannot take an iX past its own 11 kW, but on a genuine three-phase supply that 11 kW is worth having on a battery this large. No BMW iX of this generation was offered with a 22 kW onboard charger, so 11 kW is the ceiling either way. The 16A cable is simply not viable here. At 3.7 kW an xDrive50 needs 32 hours 15 minutes from empty, which is a day and a third, and returns about 13 miles of range an hour. Even the smaller xDrive40 takes 21 hours 45 minutes. This is the clearest case in our whole range for not economising on the cable. BMW requoted iX range figures during the model's life, so treat them as a band. Cold weather and motorway speeds each reduce them further. BMW iX Charging Cable FAQs Which cable does a BMW iX need? For a BMW iX the answer is a Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A single phase, on every version from the xDrive40 to the M60. It carries the full 7.4 kW a house can supply, and on a battery this large getting every watt matters more than on any other car we cover. How long does a BMW iX take to charge at home? About 16 hours from empty for a 105.2 kWh BMW iX xDrive50 or M60, and about 10 hours 45 minutes for the 71 kWh xDrive40, both on a 7.4 kW wallbox. No off-peak window covers the larger figure, which is why most owners charge nightly from part full rather than running the battery down. Is a three-phase cable worth it on a BMW iX? More so than on almost any car, provided you can reach a genuine three-phase supply. It takes a 105.2 kWh BMW iX from about 16 hours to 10 hours 45 minutes, which is the difference between an overnight charge and one that is still running at lunchtime. At a normal house it delivers 7.4 kW, exactly as the 32A single-phase cable does. Can a BMW iX use a 22kW onboard charger? Not on this generation. Every BMW iX xDrive40, xDrive50 and M60 has an 11 kW onboard charger as standard and there was no 22 kW option on UK cars, so the car caps at 11 kW even on a three-phase supply. Is a 16A cable ever sensible on a BMW iX? No. A 16A cable holds a BMW iX at 3.7 kW, which means 32 hours 15 minutes from empty on the big battery and about 13 miles of range recovered per hour. On a car of this size the saving against a 32A cable is repaid within weeks of charging at off-peak rates. What cable length works for a BMW iX? 10m, and it is not a close call. The iX is nearly five metres long and over two metres wide including mirrors, so it dominates a driveway and the charging flap ends up a long way from most wall units. 5m only makes sense inside a garage where the car parks against the same wall as the charger every time.

    Nearly every Peugeot e-Rifter on UK roads wants the same thing: a 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The car takes 7.4 kW AC as standard, and 7.4 kW is also the ceiling of a single phase British home supply, so a 32A cable matches the car exactly and leaves nothing unused. The e-Rifter is the passenger version of the e-Partner van and carries identical charging hardware. Peugeot lists an 11 kW three phase on-board charger as an option, but 11 kW is a three phase number. It is only reached at a three phase supply, using our 32A three phase cable. Plug an 11 kW car into a normal home wallbox and it will draw 7.4 kW, the same as everything else. Battery size is where owners get caught out. Peugeot improved the pack in February 2024, lifting usable capacity from 46.3 kWh to 50 kWh and adding a heat pump, yet kept the 50 kWh badge on both cars. The badge therefore tells you nothing. Quoted range is the giveaway: roughly 174 miles for the earlier car, roughly 199 miles for the February 2024 facelift. The connector, the charge rate and the cable are unchanged. Only the time on the clock moves. The seven seat e-Rifter Long shares its battery and on-board charger with the standard car built in the same year, so treat it exactly the same way. On length, 5m is enough when the wallbox sits on the wall the car parks beside and the charge port is reached in one straight run. Go to 10m if you park on the street, share a driveway, or reverse in some days and drive in on others. The conductors are identical, so reach costs you no speed. A Type 2 to 3 pin cable is worth keeping for a night away from home, but it delivers 2.3 kW and takes the better part of a day for a full charge. Treat it as a backup rather than your main method. Not by the badge, because both say 50 kWh. The version sold from late 2021 to early 2024 holds 46.3 kWh usable and is quoted at about 174 miles. The February 2024 facelift holds 50 kWh usable, gained a heat pump, and is quoted at about 199 miles. Both use the same Type 2 cable. Can I charge an e-Rifter from a 3 pin socket? It earns its place for a weekend at a relative's house rather than daily use, and it is IP67 rated. Should I buy a 5m or a 10m cable? Pick 5m when the wallbox is fixed to the wall the e-Rifter parks against and the port is a short straight reach away.     The Mercedes EQS takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and for a UK home the 32A single phase version is the one to buy. It carries 7.4 kW, which is the most any wallbox in a British house can deliver. The split that matters is Saloon against SUV. The EQS Saloon has an 11 kW onboard charger. The EQS SUV has a 22 kW charger. Mercedes offered a 22 kW charger on the Saloon in Europe, but we have not been able to confirm it was orderable here, so treat a UK Saloon as 11 kW unless you know otherwise. Neither number changes anything on a driveway. UK houses are single phase, so both cars stop at 7.4 kW on a domestic wallbox. Three phase supplies turn up at some workplaces and public posts, and that is the only place a 22 kW lead pulls ahead. Buy the three phase cable if you plug in at those regularly. If you only ever charge at home, it is headroom the car will never use. Battery sizes are big either way, so a slow cable costs you real time. Saloon models hold 107.8 kWh usable, rising to 118 kWh from the 2024 facelift. The SUV holds 108 kWh usable, again 118 kWh after the facelift. A 16A lead at 3.7 kW turns one overnight charge into a two night job. Trim and line make no difference. There is no three phase Type 1, so 7.4 kW is as high as this connector goes by design. A 16 amp cable in the chain would cap the whole run at roughly half that. Can I leave it plugged in outdoors? It is built to IEC 62196 and is designed for outdoor use while charging, so rain on the driveway is not a problem once both ends are seated and latched.     The year on the V5 decides which cable to buy here. CUPRA replaced the Leon e-HYBRID's charging hardware in 2024, and the two cars are not close. Up to 2024 the e-HYBRID pairs a 1.4 TSI with a 12.8 kWh battery, around 10.6 kWh of it usable, behind a 3.6 kW onboard charger. That is a 16A rate. A 16A Type 2 to Type 2 cable fills it in about 3 hours 33 minutes, and a 32A cable gives you the same 3 hours 33 minutes, because the car rather than the cable is the bottleneck. Buy the 16A and keep the difference. The 2024 facelift is a different proposition. The 1.5 TSI cars, 204PS and 272PS, carry 19.7 kWh usable behind an 11 kW charger, and they add CCS rapid charging at 50 kW, which is rare on a plug-in hybrid. Here the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the right buy. It pulls the full 7.4 kW a UK home supply allows and reaches a full battery in roughly 3 hours. A 16A cable would need six. That 11 kW rating is a three phase number. You will only see it on a three phase charge point with the 32A three phase cable, which takes the facelift car down to about 2 hours 30 minutes. At home, on single phase, the standard 32A cable already does everything the car can accept. A Type 2 to 3 Pin cable is worth keeping in the boot either way. It trickles at 2.3 kW, so roughly 5 hours 15 minutes on the early car and 9 hours 45 on the facelift, which is fine overnight at a relative's house but not as your main method. Neither car will ever exceed those rates, whatever you plug it into. Is a 32A cable worth it on a pre 2024 Leon e-HYBRID? No. That car's onboard charger tops out at 3.6 kW, so a 32A cable returns the same 3 hours 33 minutes as the 16A one.
