The 10.5 kW figure that turns up on forums and spec sites is the North American number, and it does not apply to cars sold here. What matters far more than either figure is the size of the pack behind it. With up to 91 kWh usable, the Mach-E holds more energy than almost anything else on this site, and that changes which cables are actually useful rather than merely compatible. The Ford Mustang Mach-E charging cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Ford puts the inlet on the nearside front wing, just ahead of the driver's door on a UK car, so the lead approaches from the front corner rather than the rear. Renault Kangoo ZE Charging Cable
Three electric Kangoos have been sold in the UK and they do not all take the same cable, so check the year on your V5 before ordering. The Kangoo Z.E. 33, built from 2017 to 2021, is the van this page is written for. It uses a Type 2 inlet with a 7.4 kW onboard charger, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A is what you want. Its 31 kWh usable battery goes from flat to full in about 4 hours 45 minutes, so a van back at the yard at six in the evening is ready long before the first job. The current Kangoo E-Tech, from 2022, is also Type 2 but carries a 22 kW three phase charger and a 45 kWh usable battery. On a single phase supply, which is what almost every house and small unit has, you get 7.4 kW and about 6 hours 45 minutes. If your depot genuinely has three phase power, the 22kW cable is one of the few real upgrades on the market: the same battery fills in roughly 2 hours 15 minutes, which turns a lunch break into a useful charge. The older Kangoo Z.E. of 2011 to 2017 is the exception. It uses a Type 1 socket and none of the cables on this page will plug into it. You need a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, which is a separate product. That single number decides the purchase: a 16A Type 2 to Type 2 cable is all this car can use. At 3.7 kW the pack goes from empty to full in about 2 hours 45 minutes. Fit a 32A cable and the figure does not move, because the limit is inside the car. Fit the 32A three phase cable and it still does not move. Spending more buys nothing here, unless you want the cable to outlive the X5 and serve a faster car later. A Type 2 to 3 Pin cable is a sensible second purchase for this particular model. Because the battery is only 9.2 kWh, a 2.3 kW trickle still finishes in around 4 hours 30 minutes, so an ordinary household socket at a hotel or a relative's house is genuinely usable rather than a last resort. That is not the case on a full electric car. Take care not to confuse the xDrive40e with the plug-in X5s that followed it. The Smart EQ ForFour takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and 32A is what to order. What surprises people is the charger sitting behind that socket: this is a small city car with a 22 kW three phase onboard charger, a specification usually found on far bigger machinery. Which version you have decides whether that matters. Cars built from 2017 to 2019 came with a 4.6 kW charger as standard, and the 22 kW unit was a paid option that UK cars usually announce as 22kW Charger in the trim name. From 2020 every EQ ForFour got the 22 kW charger as standard. Smart stopped building the car in December 2021. At home the difference disappears. A standard charger car limits itself to 4.6 kW and takes around 4 hours. Either is a short evening rather than an overnight. The three phase cable pays for itself only if you use three phase public posts and your car has the 22 kW charger. There the battery goes from empty to full in roughly 45 minutes, which is genuinely quick given that no ForFour has any rapid charging at all. Here is the part that matters on a small battery. A 3 pin cable at 2.3 kW fills the ForFour from empty in about 8 hours 15 minutes. On most electric cars that would be a two day job and we would call it emergency use, but on 16.7 kWh it is a real overnight charge from an ordinary socket. If you have no wall box yet, or you park at a relative's house at weekends, the 3 pin lead is a sensible second cable rather than a last resort. Choose 5m if the car parks beside its charge point and 10m for shared bays, kerbside posts or a reversed in driveway. The petrol ForFour has no charging port. The Smart #1 and #3 hold 62 kWh usable and also carry a 22 kW charger, so 32A gives 7.4 kW and about 9 hours 30 minutes at home. Kia Soul EV Charging Cable
A second generation Kia e-Soul charges at 7.2 kW on AC through a Type 2 inlet. A first generation Kia Soul EV charges at up to 6.6 kW through a Type 1 inlet. That is the whole Kia Soul EV charging cable decision, and the registration year will not settle it, because both cars were sold on 2019 plates. Open the flap and look at the DC socket instead. A round CHAdeMO port beside the inlet means the older car and a Type 1 lead. A CCS port, which is the inlet with two large pins added underneath, means the newer car and a Type 2 lead. Both generations charge through a flap set into the middle of the front grille, so the cable has to reach the nose of the car whichever Soul is sitting on the drive. Kia has never put the socket anywhere else on this model. For the e-Soul, order the 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Its 7.2 kW charger is a single phase unit, which suits British wiring exactly, since a domestic supply carries one phase and hands over up to 7.4 kW. We do not list a 22 kW three phase lead for this car and there would be no point in one, because there is nothing on a Soul for the extra two phases to feed. 16A is a false economy on a 64 kWh e-Soul. The car is held to 3.7 kW, which turns a 10 hour fill into one lasting 19 hours 30 minutes, so the battery cannot get from empty to full inside a night. Miles recovered per hour halve, from about 32 to 16. That gap is why the 16A lead only makes sense on the small first generation battery. There is a second cable worth owning, and it is the 3-pin one. An MG ZS EV charging cable is one of the easier decisions in this catalogue, because the car never draws more than about 7 kW on AC and never has. MG changed the battery three times between 2019 and 2023, from 44.5 kWh to 51.1 kWh to the 72.6 kWh Long Range, and left the onboard charger roughly where it started each time. Check the badge before buying anything, though. The MG ZS sold from 2024 is a petrol hybrid with no charging socket at all, and only the ZS EV built between 2019 and 2023 takes a cable. Every MG ZS EV uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. The inlet hides behind the MG badge in the centre of the grille, so the socket sits at the very nose of the car rather than on a rear wing like most rivals. Buy the 32A single phase version. A British house is fed by one phase and one phase tops out at 7.4 kW, which is already more than the ZS EV will accept. Three phase power is a commercial and industrial supply, so the 22 kW cable has nothing extra to offer this car on a driveway, and nothing extra to offer it at a workplace either, because the ceiling is inside the MG rather than in the wiring. The 16A cable saves a little and costs a lot of time. On the 72.6 kWh Long Range it stretches a full charge from 11 hours to 20 hours 45 minutes, so the car stops finishing inside one night. Recovery falls from about 28 miles an hour to 15, meaning a seven hour cheap rate window puts back roughly 196 miles on the better cable and about 105 on the cheaper one. The saving is thirteen pounds on a five metre lead. Keep a Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable in the boot anyway. BMW 740e Charging Cable
The BMW 740e takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the 16A version is the one we recommend. This is a plug-in hybrid with a 9.2 kWh battery, so the pack is small and there is nothing for a bigger cable to do. Save the money and put it towards a second cable for the boot. Two plug-in 7 Series were sold in the UK. The 740e, 740Le and 740Le xDrive iPerformance ran from 2016 to 2019 with a 9.2 kWh battery. The 745e, 745Le and 745Le xDrive replaced them from 2019 to 2022 and carry 12 kWh. Both use the same Type 2 inlet, so one cable covers either car and the badge only changes how long a full charge takes. BMW never published an AC charge rate for these cars, so we will not quote one. What we can tell you is what the pack does in practice. The 12 kWh 745e refills in roughly 3 hours 20 minutes on a 7 kW wallbox, and the smaller 9.2 kWh 740e finishes overnight on any wallbox you plug it into. That 745e figure is the useful clue: it works out well below what a 32A cable can carry, which means the car, not the cable, is setting the pace. A dearer cable will not shorten it. So skip the 32A single phase cable and skip the three phase one too. A UK home is single phase and stops at 7.4 kW anyway, and neither car can use even that. The 16A cable at 3.7 kW is matched to the job, and it is lighter and easier to coil into a 7 Series boot. A Type 2 to 3 Pin cable is a sensible second buy here rather than a first one. Porsche Taycan Charging Cable
The Porsche Taycan is the only car on this site with two AC charging ports, one in each front wing, and that single fact changes the length answer more than any specification does. Park either way round and a socket is on the near side. Every Taycan has an 11 kW three phase onboard charger as standard, and on a British house that becomes 7.4 kW, because a home supply carries one phase rather than three. All of them use a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Porsche puts the DC socket on the right-hand side only, so the right wing takes both AC and rapid charging while the left is AC alone. Either will take the cable on this page. Buy the 32A single phase lead for home use. There is a real case for the 32A three phase version as well, because the Taycan genuinely accepts 11 kW: on a 22 kW public AC post or a workplace with three phases, a Performance Battery Plus car comes down from 14 hours 45 minutes to 10 hours. Between roughly 2021 and 2023 Porsche also offered a 22 kW onboard charger as an option, and cars fitted with it will pull the full 22 kW on such a supply. Porsche's own technical data for the 2024 facelift lists only the 11 kW unit, so newer cars are almost certainly 11 kW. The 16A cable has no place on a Taycan. It caps the car at 3.7 kW, and twenty five hours to fill a car built to cover ground quickly is not a serious proposition. The 3-pin cable is the one nobody expects to need until they do. Whatever year your Model X is, the cable is a Type 2 to Type 2 at 32A. Take the 5m or the 10m. Every Model X uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, from the first 2016 cars through to the 2021 refresh and the Plaid, so nothing about your driveway setup changes with model year. The differences that follow all concern rapid charging and three phase posts, not the cable you plug in at home. The important dividing line is May 2019. Cars built up to April 2019 use Type 2 for AC charging and for Supercharging alike, with no CCS port at all. From May 2019 the Raven cars kept Type 2 for AC and added CCS for rapid charging. An early car needs Tesla's paid CCS retrofit before it can use a modern V3 Supercharger, which is worth knowing if you are buying used, but it makes no difference to a home wallbox. Onboard charger ratings moved around too. The earliest 2016 cars take 11 kW, or 22 kW if they were specified with the optional twin chargers. Later pre-facelift cars and the Raven take 16.5 kW on a three phase supply. The 2021 refresh and Plaid take 11 kW. Every one of those numbers collapses to 7.4 kW on a British home supply, because UK houses are single phase and 7.4 kW is the physical ceiling. Batteries run from 75 kWh on early cars to 100 kWh on later ones, so a full charge at 7.4 kW takes somewhere between eleven hours thirty and fifteen hours fifteen. Mercedes Vito E-Cell Van EV Charging Cable
If you run an electric Vito, you almost certainly run an eVito, and it takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A. Order the 5m or the 10m. That single cable covers the whole eVito range: the 41 kWh panel van of 2019 to 2020, the 60 kWh panel van from 2020, and the 90 kWh eVito Tourer. All three use a Type 2 inlet, so there is no connector decision to make. The van in this page's title is a different story. The Vito E-CELL was built between 2010 and 2013, around 2,000 of them, and leased to fleets in Germany and Spain rather than sold to customers. We have found no evidence of right hand drive UK sales, and its 36 kWh pack predates the Type 2 standard, so its connector is not something we can confirm. We will not sell you a cable on a guess. If you genuinely have an E-CELL, contact us before buying anything. For the eVito, plan around your depot supply. The 60 kWh panel van and the 90 kWh Tourer both accept 11 kW, which is a three phase figure. On the single phase supply that almost every yard and every house has, you get 7.4 kW, and the 32A single phase cable delivers that in full. From empty, that is about nine hours fifteen minutes for the 60 kWh van and about thirteen hours forty five for the Tourer. On a three phase post those drop to six hours fifteen and nine hours fifteen. The 41 kWh van is the one gap in our data. Mercedes UK has not confirmed its AC charge rate, so we do not quote a charging time for it. LDV EV80 Charging Cable
Buy the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for the LDV EV80. The van holds 56 kWh and its onboard charger is around 7 kW, so a 32A lead lets it work at full pace and anything smaller simply stretches the night out. The EV80 was on sale here from roughly 2017 to 2020, and it was the last electric van to carry the LDV name. The brand became Maxus in the UK and Ireland in April 2020, and the eDeliver 9 took over the same slot in the range. If you are shopping for the newer van, the cable is the same Type 2 to Type 2 lead, but the battery choice runs from 51 kWh to 88.5 kWh and the AC rate varies by version, so check the handbook rather than assuming. On the EV80 itself the onboard charger is the limit that matters. Most sources put it at about 7 kW, a few say 6.6 kW, and the difference is a matter of minutes rather than hours. A 32A cable supplies 7.4 kW, comfortably more than the van will pull, so the van sets the pace. Our compatibility chart puts a full charge from a 7.4 kW wallbox at roughly seven hours. A 16A cable is the version to avoid on this van. It caps you at 3.7 kW, which is barely half what the EV80 can take, and on a 56 kWh battery that turns an overnight charge into something closer to a working day. It only makes sense if the charge point itself is limited to 16A and you have no choice. The 3 pin cable is worth owning as a backstop for a site with no charge point, but it is not a way to run a van. At 2.3 kW you are looking at well over a day from empty. Treat it as insurance. A 16A lead stretches that to about seventeen hours, and a 3 pin cable at 2.3 kW needs more than a full day, so plan around the 32A version. Will this cable fit a Maxus eDeliver 9? Yes, the connector is the same Type 2 to Type 2. The eDeliver 9 replaced the EV80 when LDV became Maxus in April 2020, and it comes with 51, 72 or 88.5 kWh depending on version. The W213 E300de of 2019 to 2023 charges at 7.4 kW on AC. The current W214 charges at 11 kW. The diesel is what makes the cable decision interesting, because owners of this car rarely need the battery for a long journey. They need it for the thirty mile leg at each end, which means what actually matters is whether the pack is full again by morning. Every E-Class plug-in hybrid takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, whether it is the E300de diesel or the E300e petrol, which use the same charging hardware. Mercedes puts the socket at the rear of the car rather than on a front wing, so check which side yours is on before measuring. Get the 32A single phase cable. Certification aside, the electrical point is simple: the 22 kW lead is designed for a three phase supply, almost no British house has one, and a single phase caps everything at 7.4 kW. On a W213 that is the car's own maximum anyway, so nothing is lost. On a W214 the 11 kW charger could go faster, but only at a workplace or commercial site with three genuine phases, where a full charge falls from 4 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes. The 16A cable doubles the time on a W213, from 2 hours to 4 hours. That sounds survivable until you remember this is a car charged every night rather than twice a week. Two extra hours a night, every night, to save thirteen pounds once. A 13 amp socket is a realistic overnight charge for a battery this small. Polestar has changed almost everything about the Polestar 2 since 2020. The battery has been 64, 69, 78 and 82 kWh. The drive layout switched from front to rear in 2023. The trim names have moved around more than once. The one specification that has never changed is the onboard charger: 11 kW three phase on every UK Polestar 2, on every trim, in every model year. That is why the Polestar 2 charging cable question has one answer regardless of which car you own, and it is also why the 22 kW upgrade so many owners are offered was never relevant here. Every Polestar 2 charges through a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. The inlet sits on the offside rear quarter, behind the driver's door, in the same place a fuel filler would be on a petrol car. The lead to buy is the 32A single phase one. The 11 kW on the spec sheet is a three phase number, and wired to a normal British house the car takes 7.4 kW instead, which the 32A single phase cable supplies in full. Where the three phase cable does earn its money is a workplace or commercial site with a real three phase feed, where a 79 kWh Long Range drops from 12 hours to 8 hours. UK adverts and original invoices usually name the option, so check the paperwork before choosing. Remember that 22 kW is a three phase figure. Where you do, it fills this battery in roughly 45 minutes. Charge only at home and the 32A single phase cable is the smarter buy. No Smart of any year has rapid charging, so AC is the only way in. Buy the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for a Vauxhall Mokka-e. Every electric Mokka listed below carries a Type 2 inlet, and every one of them draws 7.4 kW once it is plugged in at a British home. The 32A cable is the only one we stock that lets the car reach that figure, so it is the default whether your car is a 2021 example or a 2025 one. The Mokka-e is the odd one out in the Vauxhall range, in a good way. Where the Corsa-e of the same period treated the 11 kW three phase charger as an upgrade, the Mokka-e was given it as standard from launch. That is the cable that delivers the full 7.4 kW a UK home supply can give, and it is the right buy whichever Megane you have. The reason to read further is the onboard charger. Early UK cars sold in Optimum Charge specification, shown as OC in the version name, carry a 22 kW three phase charger. Cars from around 2025 are 11 kW, and Renault UK's own technical specification no longer lists a 22 kW option. There was also a standard charger EV60 at 7.4 kW. Renault's marketing pages still quote up to 22 kW while their charging tables cap at 11, so check your own paperwork or the version name rather than trusting a brochure. At home none of this matters. UK houses are single phase, so 7.4 kW is the ceiling for every Megane regardless of what the charger inside it can do. A 60 kWh EV60 goes from empty to full in about 9 hours 15 minutes on a 32A cable, which is one overnight. The three phase cable only earns its money if you have an Optimum Charge car and you regularly park at a three phase post. There the 22 kW charger does its job and the same 60 kWh fills in roughly 3 hours. On a 2025 car the same cable and post give you 11 kW, so around 6 hours 15 minutes. That pairing suits almost every driveway in Britain. Citroen sold an 11 kW three phase charger as a £300 option, and it deserves a warning rather than a recommendation. Eleven kilowatts is a three phase rating, reached only at a three phase supply, which almost no UK home has. Citroen's own price guide goes further and states that on a single phase supply an 11 kW car charges more slowly than a 7.4 kW one. Unless you regularly use three phase posts, the standard charger with a 32A cable will serve you better. There are two battery sizes to know about. Cars badged 50 kWh, on sale from 2021 and joined by the e-C4 X fastback in 2023, hold 46.3 kWh usable. From June 2023 Citroen added a 54 kWh, 156hp version holding 50.8 kWh usable, offered in both hatchback and X bodies. They share the same connector and the same standard charge rate.
