    Britain got the rebuilt Polestar 3 before anywhere else. In October 2025 Polestar moved the car to an 800 volt architecture, renamed the trims Rear motor, Dual motor and Performance, and launched it in the UK first because of UK demand. That change transformed DC rapid charging, up to 350 kW on the bigger battery. What it did not change is the onboard AC charger, which remains 11 kW three phase, exactly as it was on the 2023 to 2025 cars. So whichever Polestar 3 is on your drive, the cable answer is identical. All of them charge through a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, with the flap on the nearside rear quarter where a fuel filler would be. Polestar sells a 6 metre cable as an accessory, which is why some owners find a 5m lead feels short. Order the 32A single phase cable. An 11 kW rating describes three phases arriving at a building, and British houses get one, which carries 7.4 kW. That is what a Polestar 3 draws on a domestic wallbox and what the 32A single phase lead supplies. The 32A three phase cable is only worth the money where three real phases exist, taking a 102 kWh Dual motor from 15 hours 30 minutes to 10 hours 30 minutes. The 16A cable is out of its depth here. Twenty seven hours against thirteen and a half, on the smallest battery Polestar fits, and worse on the others. A 3-pin cable will not fill this battery, and that is not what it is for. Choose 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 for a Polestar 3 at home. No version exceeds 11 kW three phase, a figure a domestic supply reduces to 7.4 kW, and this lead hands over the whole of that on either generation. Did the 800 volt update change how a Polestar 3 charges on AC? No. Polestar's October 2025 update moved the Polestar 3 to an 800 volt architecture and raised DC rapid charging to as much as 350 kW, but the onboard AC charger stayed at 11 kW three phase. A 2023 car and a 2026 car take the same cable and charge at the same speed on a wallbox. Has any Polestar 3 had a 22kW charger? No. Not one UK Polestar 3 has been built with a 22 kW onboard charger, on either generation and in every trim. Buying a 22 kW rated cable does the car no harm, but it will still only draw 11 kW through it, and 7.4 kW of that at a house. How long does a Polestar 3 take to charge at home? About 13 hours 30 minutes from empty for the 88 kWh Rear motor on a 32A cable, and 15 hours 30 minutes for the 102 kWh Dual motor. The older 107 kWh cars take around 16 hours 15 minutes. These are large batteries, so overnight top ups rather than full charges are the normal pattern. What length of charging cable does a Polestar 3 need? The socket is on the nearside rear quarter of a 4.9 metre SUV, so 5m works if you park nose in with the wallbox on the passenger side and towards the back. Back onto the drive, or fix the unit to the opposite wall, and the cable has to reach along most of the car, which is the point at which 10m stops being optional. Can I use this cable at a public charge point? Yes. UK untethered AC posts have a bare Type 2 socket at the charger end and expect the driver to bring a lead, so the same cable works at home and away.     The Tavascan is one of the easier cars to buy a cable for. There is a single battery, a single charger rating and no options to check. Every UK car, whether V1, V2, VZ1 or VZ2, has 77 kWh of usable capacity and an 11 kW onboard charger as standard. Order the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A UK home sits on a single phase supply, so 7.4 kW is the most any domestic charge point can deliver, and the 32A cable carries all of it. From empty that works out at about 11 hours 45 minutes, which is a long night but a realistic weekly cycle given how rarely a 77 kWh car runs down to zero. The 11 kW headline is a three phase figure. It needs a three phase supply and the 32A three phase cable, and it returns roughly 8 hours for a full charge. Very few UK homes have three phase power, so treat that cable as a workplace or destination accessory rather than the default choice. On a single phase home charger it delivers the same 7.4 kW as the cheaper 32A version. The Tavascan also has a CCS socket and accepts DC at up to 135 kW. That is separate from anything sold here, since rapid units come with their own cable attached. A 16A cable is a poor match for a battery this size at about 23 hours 30 minutes from empty, and the Type 2 to 3 Pin cable is strictly a backup at around 37 hours 45 minutes. You can plug one in, but 3.7 kW against 77 kWh means about 23 hours 30 minutes from empty. That only suits low daily mileage and a car parked for long stretches. For most owners the step up to 32A is worth the difference in price. What about rapid charging? The Tavascan accepts DC at up to 135 kW through its CCS socket. Rapid units come with their own fixed cable, so nothing on this page is used for that. The cables here are for the Type 2 AC socket at home, at work and at public AC posts. Should I buy 5m or 10m? 5m is fine when the charge point is mounted alongside the parking space and you always park nose in.     An Audi Q8 e-tron takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable and accepts 11 kW on AC as standard. Order the 32A single phase cable, which hands the car the full 7.4 kW a British home supply can produce. This car deserves a moment's thought that a smaller EV does not, because the battery is the largest we sell a cable for. A 106 kWh Q8 e-tron 55 takes about 16 hours 15 minutes to fill from empty at 7.4 kW. On a 16A cable that becomes over 32 hours, which is not an overnight charge by any definition, so the 16A is the wrong buy here even though it is cheaper. Then check the left hand side of your car. The 22 kW twin charger was a cost option and it needed a second charge flap on the near side. If your Q8 e-tron has two flaps and you charge somewhere with three phase power, the three-phase cable genuinely doubles your rate. If it has one flap, or you charge at home, it does nothing the 32A single phase does not already do. Do not confuse this car with the Audi Q8 TFSI e, which is a petrol plug-in hybrid on the conventional Q8 body, takes 7.4 kW and is a different car entirely.     You will find UK listings claiming the BMW 225xe charges in about two hours on a 7 kW wallbox. That is arithmetically impossible, because the 225xe has a 3.7 kW single phase onboard charger. BMW confirmed the figure in writing when it launched the replacement, noting that maximum charging capacity was going up from 3.7 kW to 7.4 kW on the new car. The number matters commercially, because it means the cheapest cable we sell is the right one for this car and anything dearer is money spent on capability the 225xe cannot use. Every BMW 225xe Active Tourer uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. BMW puts the socket under a separate flap on the front left wing, ahead of the driver's door, and the car has no DC rapid charging at all, so a Type 2 cable is the only way to charge it anywhere. Buy the 16A version. At 3.7 kW the car is already at its ceiling on a 16A lead, so the 32A single phase cable charges it no faster and the 22 kW three phase cable is money wasted twice over: the 225xe cannot use three phases, and a British house cannot supply them. This is one of the few pages on this site where we will tell you plainly not to buy the more expensive cable. The battery changed during the car's life and the charger did not. Cars up to 2019 carry 7.6 kWh gross, sometimes quoted as 7.7, of which 5.8 kWh is usable. From August 2019 the pack grew to 10.0 kWh gross and 8.8 kWh usable. Owners often ask how to tell which one they have, and for cable purposes the reassuring answer is that it does not matter, because both charge at 3.7 kW and both take the same lead. A domestic socket lead is genuinely practical on a battery this small. The facelift in autumn 2018 and the battery change in August 2019 were separate events, which means a 2018 facelifted car still has the smaller pack. A BMW 225xe needs a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, and the 16A version is all it can use. The car's onboard charger is limited to 3.7 kW, so a 32A cable delivers exactly the same speed for more money. Can a BMW 225xe charge at 7kW? No, and this is the most common mistake made about this car. Several UK listings quote a two hour charge on a 7 kW wallbox, which cannot happen on a 3.7 kW onboard charger. BMW itself put the figure on record when it launched the successor, describing the increase from 3.7 kW to 7.4 kW as a change. Does the bigger battery charge any faster? No. The 2019 upgrade from 7.6 kWh to 10.0 kWh left the 3.7 kW charger untouched, so the larger battery simply takes longer, about 2 hours 45 minutes rather than 1 hour 45 minutes. Both take the same cable, which is why you do not need to identify your battery before ordering. Is the 22kW three phase cable worth it on a BMW 225xe? No, for two separate reasons. The 225xe cannot draw more than 3.7 kW from any supply, and a British house provides a single phase in any case. There is no site anywhere in the country where that cable would charge this car faster than the 16A one. Can I charge a BMW 225xe from a three pin socket? Yes, and on this car it works properly. A 3-pin lead fills the later 10.0 kWh battery in about 4 hours 15 minutes and the earlier one in 2 hours 45 minutes, so an ordinary household socket gives you a complete charge overnight with hours to spare. What length of cable does a BMW 225xe need? The flap is on the front left wing of a car about 4.35 metres long, so 5m reaches when the wallbox is towards the front of the drive on the passenger side.     The Vauxhall Astra Electric takes 11 kW AC, a three phase rating, so the fastest a home wallbox can feed it is 7.4 kW and a 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable delivers precisely that. Both the Astra Electric hatchback and the Astra Sports Tourer Electric estate take a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable through the Type 2 portion of the CCS Combo 2 inlet.     Jaguar changed the I-Pace's onboard charger in the middle of 2020, and at a British house the change makes almost no difference at all. Cars up to 20MY have a 7 kW single phase charger. From 21MY, announced in June 2020, every I-Pace got an 11 kW three phase unit as standard. A home supply carries one phase and tops out at 7.4 kW, so both cars charge at roughly the same speed on a domestic wallbox. The upgrade only shows itself on a three phase supply, which is why so many owners have never noticed which one they own. Both versions use a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Jaguar puts the charging flap on the front wheel arch, nearside, so the lead reaches in at the kerb-side front corner rather than anywhere near the back of the car. The 32A single phase cable is the right buy for either. On a 7 kW car it gives the full rate the charger can take, and on an 11 kW car it gives the full 7.4 kW a house can deliver. The 32A three phase cable only pays on a 21MY or later I-Pace at a workplace with three genuine phases, where a full charge falls from 13 hours to 8 hours 45 minutes. On a pre-2021 car there is no benefit to be had anywhere, since its onboard charger is a single phase unit. The 16A cable is not worth the saving on a 90 kWh battery. Twenty five and three quarter hours is not a charging strategy, and it drops recovery to about 13 miles an hour on a car with 292 miles of range. Every I-Pace left the factory with a 3-pin lead, and plenty have since lost it. Battery size and trim do not change that answer. The 22 kW question is the one worth getting right, because it decides whether you spend more. Audi fitted an 11 kW onboard charger as standard across the range. A second onboard charger was a cost option that raised AC charging to 22 kW. It arrived on the e-tron 55 quattro from late 2020, on the e-tron 50 quattro and the e-tron S from mid-2021, and stayed available on the Q8 e-tron through to 2025.     A Tesla Model 3 charging cable is the least Tesla-specific thing about the car. On AC the Model 3 uses an ordinary Type 2 inlet and an 11 kW onboard charger, exactly like a Volkswagen or a Kia, and it has done since the first UK cars in 2019. Nothing about the badge changes which cable fits. This catches people out because Tesla does so much else differently. The connector on the car in North America is not the one fitted here. Every UK and European Model 3, including the Highland facelift from late 2023, has a Type 2 socket for AC, so a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable is correct for all of them. The 11 kW figure assumes three phases arriving together. UK houses have one phase, and Tesla's own charging documentation gives 7.4 kW at 32A on a single-phase 230V supply, which is what a home wallbox provides. The 22 kW three-phase cable cannot lift a Model 3 above its own 11 kW, and behind a domestic supply it delivers the same 7.4 kW as the 32A does, so it only makes sense with a genuine three-phase feed at a workplace. Avoid the 16A cable on a car with this much battery. A 75 kWh Long Range Model 3 needs 23 hours at 3.7 kW, which is not an overnight charge by any definition, against 11 hours 30 minutes on the 32A. The gap in range recovered is just as stark, about 21 miles an hour rather than 42. Worth knowing about the lead in the boot: the Mobile Connector Tesla supplies is a three-pin lead, not a wallbox cable. It draws around 2.3 kW and is the equivalent of our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable, which is IP67 sealed and adds roughly 13 miles of range an hour. Every Tesla Model 3 sold in the UK and Europe has a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, including the Highland facelift. Tesla does not publish battery capacities, so these are calculated from independent estimates and should be treated as close rather than exact. How long a charging cable does a Tesla Model 3 need? The inlet sits in the rear light cluster on the driver's side of a Tesla Model 3, so the best length depends entirely on which way you park. Reverse onto a drive with the wallbox on that side and 5m is generous. Nose in, or park with the offside against a wall or a fence, and the cable has to go round the car, which is where 10m stops being optional.

    Check the badge before you buy anything. Fiat sells two cars called 500 side by side and only one of them charges. The 500e is the electric one, on a newer body. The 500 Hybrid, sometimes badged Mild Hybrid, is a petrol car with a 48V system and no charging port at all. The 1.2 and TwinAir petrol 500 built from 2007 to 2024 has none either. This is the mistake we see most often. The 500e sold here from 2021 uses a Type 2 socket and an 11 kW onboard charger whichever battery it has, so there is nothing to look up. Eleven kilowatts is a three phase rating. On a single phase British supply the car settles at 7.4 kW, which is exactly what a 32A cable delivers. Battery size decides the wait, not the cable. The 24 kWh car holds 21.3 kWh usable and reaches full in about 3 hours 15 minutes at 7.4 kW. The 42 kWh car holds 37.3 kWh usable and needs about 5 hours 45 minutes. Action and similar trims use the smaller pack, while Icon and La Prima carry the larger one. There is a second, older car with the same name. The 500e sold in North America is quoted at 6.6 kW and uses Type 1 rather than Type 2. If yours is that car, the Type 1 cables listed on this page are the right fit. It refills 95 kWh in about 14 hours 30 minutes from empty, and far less than that from the state of charge most drivers plug in at. The 32A three phase cable earns its extra cost only on a 2026 GTS or Turbo, or a 2026 Macan with the 22 kW option, and only where three phase posts are available.
