    Only one Leon takes a charging cable, and the year it was built decides how much cable you need. The plug-in is the e-HYBRID. Nothing else in the range has a socket. The eTSI is a 48 volt mild hybrid that refills itself from the engine, and TSI petrol and TDI diesel cars have no charging port at all. If the tailgate does not read e-HYBRID, no cable on this page will fit your car.Leon e-HYBRID models built from 2020 to 2024 use the 1.4 TSI 204PS drivetrain, a 12.8 kWh pack holding around 10.6 kWh usable, and a 3.6 kW onboard charger.     For a Kia Optima PHEV, buy the Type 2 to Type 2 16A cable. The onboard charger in this car is rated at 3.3 kW, and 16A carries 3.7 kW, so a 16A lead already gives the car more than it can take. Everything above that is money spent on capacity the Optima cannot use. Before anything else, make sure yours actually plugs in. Most Optimas sold in Britain were the 1.7 CRDi or 2.0 CRDi diesel, and there was a 2.0 T-GDi Optima GT petrol as well. None of those have a charging port or a battery to fill, so no cable on this page fits them. Only cars badged PHEV plug in. Two plug-in versions were built. The Optima PHEV saloon ran from 2016 to 2019 with a 9.8 kWh battery. The Optima Sportswagon PHEV followed from 2017 to 2020 with a slightly larger 11.26 kWh pack. Both share the same Type 2 inlet and the same 3.3 kW charger, so the estate simply takes half an hour or so longer to fill. Trim level changes nothing. From flat, the saloon takes around three and a quarter hours and the Sportswagon around three and three quarters.     Buying a Panamera E-Hybrid used and finding no cable in the boot is common, and replacing it correctly takes one piece of information: the rating of the onboard charger fitted to your car. Every plug-in Panamera uses a Type 2 socket, so the connector is never in doubt. What varies is how much the car will draw. On cars from 2017 to 2023 Porsche fitted a 3.6 kW charger as standard and offered a 7.2 kW charger as a paid option. Usefully, the UK model name spells out which one you have, so your V5 or the original invoice settles it in seconds. A 3.6 kW car cannot use more than a 16A cable provides. A 7.2 kW car needs the 32A cable to work at full speed, and running one on a 16A lead roughly doubles every charge. The generations themselves are straightforward. The 970.2 Panamera S E-Hybrid of 2013 to 2016 has a 9.4 kWh battery and around 3.6 kW, though Porsche never published a figure for that car. The 971 of 2017 to 2020 moved to 14.1 kWh. The 971.2 of 2021 to 2023 grew again to 17.9 kWh. From the 972 in 2024 onwards the battery is 25.9 kWh gross and, more importantly, 11 kW became standard on every E-Hybrid, which finally makes the 32A cable the obvious buy without checking any paperwork. That 11 kW figure is a three phase number. British houses are single phase, so a 972 on a home wallbox charges at 7.4 kW and completes in about four hours. Reach a three phase post and the same car finishes in around two hours forty minutes. Only then does the three phase 32A cable earn its keep, and only on the 2024 car. Two more points settle the rest. No Panamera plug-in hybrid of any generation has DC rapid charging, so the Type 2 socket is your only route in and the cable matters more than it would elsewhere.     The Mini Countryman is the one car on this site where you cannot tell the charging speed from the badge, and the difference is nearly six to one. A Countryman Electric E or SE ALL4 from 2024 has an 11 kW three phase onboard charger, and a 22 kW three phase charger was available as a factory option. An F60 Cooper S E ALL4 plug-in hybrid, sold from 2017 to 2023, takes 3.6 kW and nothing more. And the current petrol cars MINI itself calls Countryman C and Countryman S are 48 volt mild hybrids with no charging socket at all, despite the word hybrid appearing in the model name. Any Countryman that plugs in uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. The socket moved between generations: the F60 plug-in hybrid takes its charge through a flap in the left-hand front scuttle, ahead of the driver's door, while the 2024 Countryman Electric charges through the right rear side panel. Order the 32A single phase cable for home. Three phase power comes into commercial premises, not houses, and a domestic supply caps everything at 7.4 kW, which is what a Countryman Electric will draw on your driveway whether it left the factory with the 11 kW charger or the 22 kW one. The 32A three phase cable only pays for itself somewhere with three genuine phases, such as an office car park, where an 11 kW car drops from 10 hours to 6 hours 45 minutes. The 16A cable is fine on the plug-in hybrid, which cannot exceed 3.6 kW anyway, and poor on the electric car. There it holds the Countryman at 3.7 kW and stretches a full charge from 10 hours to 19 hours 45 minutes, so on the electric car it is nearly ten wasted hours a charge. A domestic socket lead is more useful on the plug-in hybrid than on the electric car. A 2024 on Countryman Electric and an F60 Cooper S E ALL4 plug-in hybrid both use a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, but the electric car wants the 32A single phase version while the plug-in hybrid is fully served by the cheaper 16A one. A petrol Countryman C or S has no socket and needs nothing. Is the Mini Countryman C or S a plug-in hybrid? No. MINI sells the current petrol Countryman as the Countryman C and Countryman S with 48 volt mild hybrid assistance, and neither has a charging socket of any kind. The only Countryman you can plug in are the F60 Cooper S E ALL4 of 2017 to 2023 and the fully electric Countryman E and SE ALL4 from 2024. Did my Countryman Electric come with the 22kW charger? There is no way to tell from the badge, because MINI sold AC Charging Professional as a priced option on the Countryman Electric alongside the standard 11 kW unit. It makes no difference at home, where a single phase supply holds either car to 7.4 kW. It only matters on a three phase supply, so check the original build sheet before paying for a three phase cable. How long does a Mini Countryman Electric take to charge at home? Roughly 10 hours to fill an empty battery using a 32A cable, and that applies to the Countryman E and the SE ALL4 alike, because both carry the same 64.7 kWh pack. On a 16A lead that becomes 19 hours 45 minutes, which no longer fits inside a night. What length of cable does a Mini Countryman need? Check which car you have first, because the socket is at opposite corners. On the 2024 Countryman Electric it is on the right rear side panel, which suits a 5m lead if you back onto the drive and the unit is mounted on the offside. On the F60 plug-in hybrid it is in the left front scuttle, which suits nose-in parking. On a 4.43 metre car, 10m removes the guesswork either way. Can I charge a Mini Countryman at a public AC post? Yes, and you need to bring the lead. UK untethered Type 2 posts have a bare socket at the charger end, so the same cable you use at home is the one that works there. The plug-in hybrid will draw its 3.6 kW and the Countryman Electric up to 11 kW on a three phase post.

    The Porsche Taycan is the only car on this site with two AC charging ports, one in each front wing, and that single fact changes the length answer more than any specification does. Park either way round and a socket is on the near side. Every Taycan has an 11 kW three phase onboard charger as standard, and on a British house that becomes 7.4 kW, because a home supply carries one phase rather than three. All of them use a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Porsche puts the DC socket on the right-hand side only, so the right wing takes both AC and rapid charging while the left is AC alone. Either will take the cable on this page. Buy the 32A single phase lead for home use. There is a real case for the 32A three phase version as well, because the Taycan genuinely accepts 11 kW: on a 22 kW public AC post or a workplace with three phases, a Performance Battery Plus car comes down from 14 hours 45 minutes to 10 hours. Between roughly 2021 and 2023 Porsche also offered a 22 kW onboard charger as an option, and cars fitted with it will pull the full 22 kW on such a supply. Porsche's own technical data for the 2024 facelift lists only the 11 kW unit, so newer cars are almost certainly 11 kW. The 16A cable has no place on a Taycan. It caps the car at 3.7 kW, and twenty five hours to fill a car built to cover ground quickly is not a serious proposition. The 3-pin cable is the one nobody expects to need until they do. Both ports sit in the front wings of a 4.96 metre car, so 5m works whenever the wallbox is anywhere near the front of the parking space, on either side. The 10m earns its place if you park a long way forward, charge at the kerb, or want the same lead to reach a second car. Is the 19.2kW figure on some Taycan listings correct? Not for a UK Porsche Taycan. The 9.6 kW and 19.2 kW numbers come from Porsche's North American technical data and describe a 240 volt single phase supply that does not exist in Britain.     Three electric Kangoos have been sold in the UK and they do not all take the same cable, so check the year on your V5 before ordering. The Kangoo Z.E. 33, built from 2017 to 2021, is the van this page is written for. It uses a Type 2 inlet with a 7.4 kW onboard charger, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A is what you want. Its 31 kWh usable battery goes from flat to full in about 4 hours 45 minutes, so a van back at the yard at six in the evening is ready long before the first job. The current Kangoo E-Tech, from 2022, is also Type 2 but carries a 22 kW three phase charger and a 45 kWh usable battery. On a single phase supply, which is what almost every house and small unit has, you get 7.4 kW and about 6 hours 45 minutes. If your depot genuinely has three phase power, the 22kW cable is one of the few real upgrades on the market: the same battery fills in roughly 2 hours 15 minutes, which turns a lunch break into a useful charge. The older Kangoo Z.E. of 2011 to 2017 is the exception. It uses a Type 1 socket and none of the cables on this page will plug into it. You need a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, which is a separate product. Neither of the two older vans has any rapid charging, so AC is all you have. Length matters more on a van than on a car.     A BMW iX charging cable has to move more energy than any other car we supply. The xDrive50 and the M60 carry 105.2 kWh usable, which is more than three Nissan Leafs, and every iX accepts 11 kW on AC as standard. That size changes the character of home charging. On a British single-phase supply, which gives 7.4 kW, a 105.2 kWh iX takes about 16 hours from empty. There is no cheap-rate window that long. It is the one car in our range where a three-phase supply stops being a nice extra and starts changing how you live with the vehicle, because it takes the same charge down to about 10 hours 45 minutes. In practice most iX owners never see an empty battery, and that is the sensible approach. Plugging in nightly from 40 or 50 percent turns a 16 hour problem into a 7 hour one that fits comfortably inside off-peak hours. The car is easier to own if you stop thinking about full charges. Every BMW iX charges through a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, ours sealed to IP55, on the xDrive40, the xDrive50 and the M60 alike. Our 1-Phase, 32A cable is the right buy for a driveway, carrying the whole 7.4 kW a house can produce. Our 22 kW three-phase cable cannot take an iX past its own 11 kW, but on a genuine three-phase supply that 11 kW is worth having on a battery this large. No BMW iX of this generation was offered with a 22 kW onboard charger, so 11 kW is the ceiling either way. The 16A cable is simply not viable here. At 3.7 kW an xDrive50 needs 32 hours 15 minutes from empty, which is a day and a third, and returns about 13 miles of range an hour. Even the smaller xDrive40 takes 21 hours 45 minutes. This is the clearest case in our whole range for not economising on the cable. It carries the full 7.4 kW a house can supply, and on a battery this large getting every watt matters more than on any other car we cover. How long does a BMW iX take to charge at home? About 16 hours from empty for a 105.2 kWh BMW iX xDrive50 or M60, and about 10 hours 45 minutes for the 71 kWh xDrive40, both on a 7.4 kW wallbox. No off-peak window covers the larger figure, which is why most owners charge nightly from part full rather than running the battery down. Is a three-phase cable worth it on a BMW iX? More so than on almost any car, provided you can reach a genuine three-phase supply. It takes a 105.2 kWh BMW iX from about 16 hours to 10 hours 45 minutes, which is the difference between an overnight charge and one that is still running at lunchtime. At a normal house it delivers 7.4 kW, exactly as the 32A single-phase cable does. Can a BMW iX use a 22kW onboard charger? Not on this generation. Every BMW iX xDrive40, xDrive50 and M60 has an 11 kW onboard charger as standard and there was no 22 kW option on UK cars, so the car caps at 11 kW even on a three-phase supply. Is a 16A cable ever sensible on a BMW iX? No. A 16A cable holds a BMW iX at 3.7 kW, which means 32 hours 15 minutes from empty on the big battery and about 13 miles of range recovered per hour. On a car of this size the saving against a 32A cable is repaid within weeks of charging at off-peak rates. What cable length works for a BMW iX? 10m, and it is not a close call. The iX is nearly five metres long and over two metres wide including mirrors, so it dominates a driveway and the charging flap ends up a long way from most wall units. 5m only makes sense inside a garage where the car parks against the same wall as the charger every time.

    If you run an electric Vito, you almost certainly run an eVito, and it takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A. Order the 5m or the 10m. That single cable covers the whole eVito range: the 41 kWh panel van of 2019 to 2020, the 60 kWh panel van from 2020, and the 90 kWh eVito Tourer. All three use a Type 2 inlet, so there is no connector decision to make. The van in this page's title is a different story. The Vito E-CELL was built between 2010 and 2013, around 2,000 of them, and leased to fleets in Germany and Spain rather than sold to customers. We have found no evidence of right hand drive UK sales, and its 36 kWh pack predates the Type 2 standard, so its connector is not something we can confirm. We will not sell you a cable on a guess. If you genuinely have an E-CELL, contact us before buying anything. For the eVito, plan around your depot supply. The 60 kWh panel van and the 90 kWh Tourer both accept 11 kW, which is a three phase figure. On the single phase supply that almost every yard and every house has, you get 7.4 kW, and the 32A single phase cable delivers that in full. From empty, that is about nine hours fifteen minutes for the 60 kWh van and about thirteen hours forty five for the Tourer. On a three phase post those drop to six hours fifteen and nine hours fifteen. The 41 kWh van is the one gap in our data. Mercedes UK has not confirmed its AC charge rate, so we do not quote a charging time for it. The 32A cable is still the right purchase, because it will supply whatever the van asks for up to the 7.4 kW ceiling, but we would rather leave a blank than invent a number for your shift planning. It caps you at 3.7 kW, which is barely half what the EV80 can take, and on a 56 kWh battery that turns an overnight charge into something closer to a working day. It only makes sense if the charge point itself is limited to 16A and you have no choice. The 3 pin cable is worth owning as a backstop for a site with no charge point, but it is not a way to run a van. At 2.3 kW you are looking at well over a day from empty. Treat it as insurance. We also list a three phase 22 kW cable. It will fit the EV80 and it will not speed it up, because the van accepts about 7 kW no matter what is offered. A UK home supply is single phase in any case, which holds every EV to 7.4 kW on the drive. The van also has a CCS inlet for rapid charging at around 30 kW. LDV EV80 Charging Cable FAQs Which cable does the LDV EV80 need? A Type 2 to Type 2 cable in the 32A version. The EV80 carries a 56 kWh battery and an onboard charger of about 7 kW, so a 32A lead at 7.4 kW gives the van everything it can take. Our chart puts a full charge from a 7.4 kW wallbox at roughly seven hours. Is the 16A cable good enough? Not really. At 3.7 kW it delivers roughly half what the EV80 will accept, so 56 kWh takes about seventeen hours instead of around seven. Unless the charge point you use is itself limited to 16A, the small saving on the cable costs you an entire extra night of charging every time the van runs low. Does the 22 kW three phase cable help? No. The EV80 tops out near 7 kW on AC, so a 22 kW three phase cable hands it far more than it can use and finishes no sooner. British homes are single phase as well, which limits any vehicle to 7.4 kW on a driveway. The 32A single phase cable is the sensible buy. How long does a full charge take? Around seven hours on a 32A cable from a 7.4 kW wallbox, which is the figure on our compatibility chart for the 56 kWh pack. A 16A lead stretches that to about seventeen hours, and a 3 pin cable at 2.3 kW needs more than a full day, so plan around the 32A version. Will this cable fit a Maxus eDeliver 9? Yes, the connector is the same Type 2 to Type 2. The eDeliver 9 replaced the EV80 when LDV became Maxus in April 2020, and it comes with 51, 72 or 88.5 kWh depending on version. AC rates vary between them, so check your handbook, but the 32A cable remains the right choice. Does the diesel LDV V80 need a cable? No. The V80 is a diesel panel van with no battery and no charging port, so nothing here will plug into it. Only the EV80 and the later Maxus electric vans charge. If your van has a fuel filler and no charge flap on the bodywork, you do not need a cable at all.

    The Smart EQ ForFour takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and 32A is what to order. What surprises people is the charger sitting behind that socket: this is a small city car with a 22 kW three phase onboard charger, a specification usually found on far bigger machinery. Which version you have decides whether that matters. Cars built from 2017 to 2019 came with a 4.6 kW charger as standard, and the 22 kW unit was a paid option that UK cars usually announce as 22kW Charger in the trim name. From 2020 every EQ ForFour got the 22 kW charger as standard. Smart stopped building the car in December 2021. At home the difference disappears. A UK house is single phase, so the ceiling is 7.4 kW whatever charger is fitted. On a 32A cable a 22 kW car fills its 16.7 kWh usable battery from empty in about 2 hours 30 minutes. A standard charger car limits itself to 4.6 kW and takes around 4 hours. Either is a short evening rather than an overnight. The three phase cable pays for itself only if you use three phase public posts and your car has the 22 kW charger. There the battery goes from empty to full in roughly 45 minutes, which is genuinely quick given that no ForFour has any rapid charging at all. Here is the part that matters on a small battery. A 3 pin cable at 2.3 kW fills the ForFour from empty in about 8 hours 15 minutes. On most electric cars that would be a two day job and we would call it emergency use, but on 16.7 kWh it is a real overnight charge from an ordinary socket. If you have no wall box yet, or you park at a relative's house at weekends, the 3 pin lead is a sensible second cable rather than a last resort. Choose 5m if the car parks beside its charge point and 10m for shared bays, kerbside posts or a reversed in driveway. The petrol ForFour has no charging port. A Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A. Every electric ForFour uses a Type 2 inlet and none of them has rapid charging, so this cable is the only way to fill the car. With the 22 kW charger fitted, a 32A cable at home takes the 16.7 kWh battery from empty to full in about 2 hours 30 minutes. Can I charge a Smart EQ ForFour from a 3 pin socket? Yes, and unusually for an electric car we would call it practical rather than a last resort. Does my ForFour have the 22kW charger? Look at the trim name first. UK cars sold between 2017 and 2019 with the option usually carry 22kW Charger in the name, and everything from 2020 onwards has it as standard. Cars without it charge at 4.6 kW. It only changes anything at a three phase post, since home supplies cap at 7.4 kW. How long does a Smart EQ ForFour take to charge? On a 32A cable at home, about 2 hours 30 minutes from empty for a 22 kW car and around 4 hours for a 4.6 kW one. A 16A cable takes roughly 5 hours. Plug into a three phase post with the 22kW cable and a 22 kW car is full in about 45 minutes. Is a three phase cable worth it on a ForFour? Only if you have the 22 kW charger and regularly use three phase posts. There the 16.7 kWh battery is full in around 45 minutes, against 2 hours 30 minutes on a single phase 32A cable. Since a UK home supply is single phase, the extra cost buys you nothing on your own driveway. Which cable suits the newer Smart #1 and #3? The same Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Smart #1 and #3 hold 62 kWh usable and also carry a 22 kW charger, so 32A gives 7.4 kW and about 9 hours 30 minutes at home. On a three phase post the 22kW cable brings that down to roughly 3 hours 15 minutes.

    Polestar has changed almost everything about the Polestar 2 since 2020. The battery has been 64, 69, 78 and 82 kWh. The drive layout switched from front to rear in 2023. The trim names have moved around more than once. The one specification that has never changed is the onboard charger: 11 kW three phase on every UK Polestar 2, on every trim, in every model year. That is why the Polestar 2 charging cable question has one answer regardless of which car you own, and it is also why the 22 kW upgrade so many owners are offered was never relevant here. Every Polestar 2 charges through a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. The inlet sits on the offside rear quarter, behind the driver's door, in the same place a fuel filler would be on a petrol car. The lead to buy is the 32A single phase one. The 11 kW on the spec sheet is a three phase number, and wired to a normal British house the car takes 7.4 kW instead, which the 32A single phase cable supplies in full. Where the three phase cable does earn its money is a workplace or commercial site with a real three phase feed, where a 79 kWh Long Range drops from 12 hours to 8 hours. If you have no access to one, that cable is heavier, dearer and exactly as fast as the cheaper option. The 16A cable belongs on smaller cars than this. On a 75 kWh Long Range it stretches a charge from 11 hours 30 minutes to 23 hours, and recovery falls from about 33 miles an hour to 17. The saving is thirteen pounds. The cost is eleven and a half hours becoming twenty three. The 3-pin cable is emergency kit on a Polestar 2, not a charging plan. That has been true of every trim and every battery since launch, so the year of your car does not change the answer at all. Did any UK Polestar 2 come with a 22kW charger? No. Polestar has never offered a 22 kW onboard charger on a UK Polestar 2. Every car built for this market has the 11 kW three phase unit, so a 22 kW cable cannot make any Polestar 2 charge faster than 11 kW under any circumstances. Would a three phase cable help a Polestar 2? Only where a genuine three phase supply exists. At a workplace or industrial unit a Polestar 2 draws its full 11 kW and a 79 kWh Long Range comes down from 12 hours to 8 hours. On a domestic supply it delivers exactly the same 7.4 kW as the cheaper 32A single phase cable. How long does a Polestar 2 take to charge at home? About 12 hours from empty for a 79 kWh Long Range Polestar 2 on a 32A cable, 11 hours 30 minutes for the earlier 75 kWh car and 10 hours for the 66 kWh Standard Range. Very few owners start from empty, and a seven hour overnight window puts back around 250 miles on the Long Range. What length of charging cable does a Polestar 2 need? The socket is on the offside rear quarter and the car is 4.6 metres long, so 5m works when you reverse onto the drive with a wallbox mounted near the back of the space. Park nose in with the unit at the far end and the lead has to run the length of the car, which is 10m territory. Can I use my Polestar 2 cable at public charge points? Yes. Untethered Type 2 posts make up most of the UK public AC network and expect drivers to bring their own lead, so the same cable serves at home and away. Rapid DC charging uses the charger's own attached cable and needs nothing from you.

    A Type 1 to 3 Pin charging cable plugs your car straight into an ordinary household socket, with no wallbox and no installation. It draws 2.3 kW, and on a Type 1 car that is a far more useful number than it sounds. Here is why. Every Type 1 car sold in Britain is an older one with a small battery, between about 12 and 33 kWh. A modern 80 kWh electric car would need three days on a household socket, which is why we describe the Type 2 granny cable as a backup. On a 24 kWh Nissan Leaf the same socket delivers a full charge in about 11 hours 45 minutes, and on an Outlander PHEV in about six. That is an overnight charge, not an emergency measure, and for a second car covering short local runs it can be the only charging you ever need. It is also the answer when there is no charge point: a relative's driveway, a holiday cottage, a workplace with a socket in the wall but nothing on it. Ours is sealed to IP67, so it can sit outside in the rain while it works, and the current is adjustable from 6A to 12A if the socket or the wiring is old. Check the inlet before you order. A Type 1 socket has five pins and a Type 2 has seven. The Nissan Leaf changed from Type 1 to Type 2 in 2018 and the Kia Soul in 2019, so the year matters as much as the badge.
